Russia plotted to overthrow Montenegro’s government by assassinating Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic last year, according to senior Whitehall sources

A report in the London Telegraph states British and American intelligence gathered evidence of high-level Russian complicity in the alleged plot to overthrow the Montenegrin government and assassinate former PM Milo Djukanovic. Russian intelligence allegedly recruited and equipped Serbian nationalists who were to attack the Montenegrin parliament building and kill Djukanovic. Sources said Moscow planned to blame rogue Russian agents and nationalists for the coup.
