Putin ally allegedly involved in Montenegro coup plot

A bne IntelliNews piece covers allegations made by Bulgarian security expert Christo Grozev that Konstantin Malofeev, a Russian billionaire and close ally of Putin, was involved in last year’s Montenegro coup plot. Malofeev is accused of leading a group of Russian Spetsnaz into the Balkans disguised as a Cossack folk band. The Spetsnaz then recruited the men who tried to carry out the coup in Montenegro, Grozev alleges. Malofeev’s name popped up last year in the Balkans when he was mentioned as potential buyer of the Serbian national broadcaster and other media outlets in Serbia.
