Worrying signs keep trickling out of the Balkans

An RFE/RL Balkan column notes several sources of destabilization in the Western Balkans, including the Macedonian political crisis and the recent Serbia-Kosovo spat, which have the potential of erupting into more serious conflicts. The article also quotes Ukraine’s ambassador to Bosnia, Aleksandr Levchenko, on Russia’s influence in the region. Levchenko said Putin appears to be following his usual script of manufacturing a conflict, then playing peacemaker and offering to negotiate a solution with the West.
