EU alarmed by Russian meddling in Balkans

Following a European Council summit, EU leaders pointed the finger at Russia for meddling in the Western Balkans, EU Observer reports. But, Brussels did not announce any new measures to counter Russian influence in the region, nor did it offer to expedite the EU accession process for Western Balkan states. Also, Brussels watered down its official statement, opting not to address Russia by name, but rather saying “external challenges” are contributing to a fragile situation in the Western Balkans.
