EU relieved by Dutch centre-right win

Dutch PM Mark Rutte emerged victorious in The Netherlands’ parliamentary elections, easily defeating the eurosceptic party of Geert Wilders. Brussels is pleased with the result, which is seen as a blow against nationalism and populism in the aftermath of Brexit and Donald Trump’s election, an EU Observer article states. Turkey, which has been engaged in a diplomatic battle with The Netherlands, responded to the result with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu saying there is no difference between Dutch liberals and “fascist” Wilders.
