EU goes back to the future in the Balkans

In a Financial Times piece, Ivan Krastev of the Sofia-based Center for Liberal Strategies, writes Russia and Turkey are eyeing the Balkans as an opportunity to chip away at the EU’s influence. Both Moscow and Ankara are now actively politicizing ethnic and religious tensions in the Balkans, Krastev states. In the case of Russia, Moscow also views the region as a prime location to demonstrate NATO’s vulnerability, Krastev adds.
