Ukraine sanctions Russian state-owned banks

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko placed sanctions on five Russian state-owned banks, blocking their Ukrainian branches from transferring funds to subsidiaries or parent companies outside of Ukraine for the next year, The Moscow Times reports. The sanctions are a reaction to a move by Russia’s Sberbank to begin accepting documents issued by the self-proclaimed republics in Donetsk and Luhansk.
