US-Russia relations at a low, says Tillerson after meeting with Putin

Following U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s meeting with Putin in Moscow, the top American diplomat said relations between Washington and Russia have hit a low, The Guardian reports. Tillerson noted the U.S. sanctions on Russia over Ukraine will remain in place and made clear that Washington and Moscow disagree fundamentally over Syria. However, the meeting at the Kremlin apparently concluded with an agreement that the U.S. and Russia will maintain a line of communication to avoid midair collisions in Syrian airspace, something that is seen as at least a slight deescalation of tensions.
