Montenegro indicts 14 as coup controversy continues

Despite domestic skepticism of the government’s story and conflicting theories as to what happened, Montenegro’s Special Prosecutor for organized crime, Milivoje Katnic, has filed an indictment against 14 people accused of involvement in last year’s coup plot in Montenegro, Balkan Insight reports. The 14 alleged conspirators are mostly Serbs, but Montenegrin and Russian citizens are also accused in the case. Katnic maintains Russian authorities were involved in the coup plot in order to stop Montenegro from joining NATO. The U.S. and UK are both backing Podgorica’s account of the alleged coup attempt.
