Polls open in Turkey’s referendum

A total of 55.3 million Turks are eligible to vote in Sunday’s long-awaited constitutional referendum that, if passed, would deliver Erdogan an executive presidency. The 18 proposed constitutional changes include abolishing the office of prime minister and giving the president the power to appoint ministers, senior government officials and half the members of Turkey’s highest judicial body, as well as the powers to issue executive orders and declare states of emergency, Hurriyet Daily News reports.
