Russian rockets fuel tensions in the Balkans

In addition to obtaining fighter jets, tanks and armored vehicles from Russia, Serbian leader Aleksandar Vucic now says he has negotiated the purchase of the S-300 anti-aircraft system from Moscow. However, the latest arms deal is overshadowed in the Balkans by reports that Russia supplied the same anti-aircraft system to Serbia’s rival Croatia when the two nations were at war during the breakup of Yugoslavia, AP reports. The 1990s arm shipment was likely a a breach of a United Nations embargo that was in place at the time. Moscow is blaming the secret 1990s deal on “dishonest Croatian moneymakers” and is saying the news is aimed at undermining Russia’s relations with Serbia.
