Flash points to watch in the Balkans

An RFE/RL piece identifies numerous flash points in the Balkans, many of which relate to the simmering ethnic tensions, particularly in Macedonia, Kosovo and Bosnia. Some ethnic Albanian leaders are again floating the idea of forming a Greater Albania, and the possibility still exists that the Bosnian Serbs will try to secede from Bosnia. As these tensions mount, Russia is challenging the West in a race for influence in the Balkans, and Turkey is strengthening its ties with the region’s Muslims.
