New Romanian govt sworn in; president calls it irresponsible

Romania’s new government was sworn in on Thursday, a week following the ruling Social Democratic Party (PSD) ousting its own prime minister, AP reports. Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, who is a political rival of the PSD, immediately ripped the new leftist government for suggesting it may introduce new taxes, cut pensions and a break a promise to lower the sales tax. Romania’s new PM is Mihai Tudose, an ally of PSD leader Liviu Dragnea, who is believed to be ruling from behind the scenes. Dragnea is barred from being premier because of a vote-rigging conviction.
