Turkey warns Greek Cypriots, oil companies against offshore energy grab

Following last week’s failed Cyprus reunification talks, Erdogan threatened western oil companies that “they could lose a friend like Turkey” if they participate in Greek Cypriot plans to exploit energy reserves around the Mediterranean island. Several companies, including ExxonMobil and France’s Total, have already won offshore exploration licenses from the Greek Cypriot government, and a drilling ship contracted by Total is already making its way to Cyprus.
