Turkey sends ships and submarine to monitor drilling vessel near Cyprus

The Turkish military deployed two frigates and a submarine to the eastern Mediterranean Sea to monitor a drilling vessel off the coast of Cyprus, Reuters reports. French energy company Total has a contract with the Cypriot government to drill for gas and is scheduled to begin doing so this week. But in the aftermath of the failed Cyprus reunification talks, Ankara is saying the Cypriot government has no jurisdiction to explore for hydrocarbons in the area, and Turkey is threatening to take measures against the Greek side of Cyprus.
