Why new US sanctions could be a ticking time bomb for investors in Russia

An op-ed in The Moscow Times notes that when dealing with Russia’s state-capitalist economy western companies partner with people who have close ties to Putin. Under the new U.S. sanctions law, there is the potential that an increasing number of Putin’s associates will be named on Washington’s sanctions list, thus making it much more difficult for firms to invest in Russia and likely causing an exodus of foreign investors from key sectors of the Russian economy.
