Russian journalist sentenced to jail on extremism charges

A special correspondent with the Russian business daily RBK who wrote a doctoral dissertation on mismanagement in state corporations and did investigative reporting on cost overruns in the construction of a Russian space launch facility has been sentenced to 3.5 years in prison after being convicted on extremism charges, RFE/RL reports. Three fellow rights activists were also convicted in the case over their ties to a group that called for setting up a popular tribunal to try senior Russian officials.
