Macedonian fined for offending Erdogan on Facebook

In a bizarre and potentially precedent-setting verdict, the Skopje Criminal Court fined a dual Macedonian-Turkish citizen 400 euros for offending Erdogan on Facebook, Balkan Insight reports. The verdict states the man was found guilty of having “published ironic statements and directed insults towards the leader of a foreign country.” The Turkish Embassy in Skopje raised the indictment in late 2016.
