Germany puts most arms exports to Turkey on hold

German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel said Berlin has put on hold all large requests for arms exports to Turkey, a NATO ally, Reuters reports. Berlin is halting major arms exports to Turkey due to its increasingly strained ties with Ankara and Turkey’s deteriorating human rights situation. Gabriel announced the decision after Germany’s foreign ministry said it is believed another German couple has been detained in Turkey on political charges.
