Ukrainian leaders blame ‘sabotage’ for huge blast at munitions depot

Ukrainian leaders blamed “sabotage” for massive explosions at an ammunition depot in central Ukraine that caused a huge fire, prompting the evacuation of more than 30,000 people and the closure of airspace over the region on Wednesday, RFE/RL reports. PM Volodymyr Hroysman said “external factors” were behind the event. Hroysman’s remarks suggest he believes the incident was connected with Ukraine’s war with Russia-backed separatists, though neither he nor Poroshenko named specific groups, individuals or a country suspected of being involved. Poroshenko said Ukraine must learn to defend its “strategic facilities from sabotage groups.”
