Hungary’s Orban cheers for Gruevski in Macedonia election

Ahead of this month’s local elections in Macedonian, now-opposition leader Nikola Gruevski received a visit from Hungarian PM Viktor Orban and former Slovenian PM Janez Jansa, who are lending Gruevski’s VMRO party support in the upcoming vote. Gruevski, while serving as Macedonian PM, won the backing of Orban, as well as Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz, by shutting Macedonia’s border with Greece during the peak of the migrant crisis. Brussels, however, has clashed with Gruevski, who is currently facing criminal charges that were filed by a special prosecutor in Skopje.
