Georgian president vetoes new constitution draft

Georgia’s parliament, which is dominated by the Georgian Dream Party, sent President Giorgi Margvelashvili a draft new constitution. Margvelashvili vetoed the new constitution, citing a series of objections, including an attempt by the Georgian Dream Party to end Georgia’s direct presidential elections, Reuters reports. Margvelashvili is also quarrelling with the ruling party over Georgia’s existing system of allowing electoral blocs, which the president wants to continue and Georgian Dream wants to scrap.
