Thaci urges Albania to grant Kosovars citizenship

Kosovo’s President Hashim Thaci requested that Tirana grant Albanian citizenship to Kosovo nationals, so that they can escape “isolation” and travel visa-free to Europe’s Schengen area, Balkan Insight reports. Albanian President  Ilir Meta responded by dismissing the idea and suggesting that Kosovo instead resolve its border demarcation dispute with Montenegro. Passing an EU-brokered border agreement remains a key obstacle in the way of Kosovo receiving visa liberalization. Other unsorted issues include the fact that five EU member states do not recognize Kosovo’s independence.
