Turkey to drill for oil and gas in Mediterranean

Turkish Energy Minister Berat Albayrak said Turkey will carry out its first drilling for oil and gas in the Mediterranean Sea later this year and its first deep drilling in 2018, Hurriyet Daily News reports. Ankara aims to open wells in Turkish and Cypriot waters and additionally plans to drill in the Black Sea. Meanwhile, construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant is slated to begin at the end of 2017 or beginning of 2018. Russia’s Rosatom plans to construct the plant, which would be Turkey’s first nuclear power plant.
