Ukrainian deputies send immunity bill to Constitutional court in ‘small victory’ for protesters

Two days following a major protest in Kiev, Ukraine’s parliament sent a bill on lifting lawmakers’ immunity from prosecution to the Constitutional Court for review, RFE/RL reports. Thousands of protesters have been gathered outside the Ukrainian parliament in recent days, and some have pitched tents by the building. Former Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili and other opposition leaders who have spearheaded the protests are demanding that Ukraine abolish parliamentary immunity, overhaul its electoral law and create anticorruption courts and legislation on impeachment of the president.
