Academics flee Turkey for Germany as Erdogan targets teachers

With Ankara preparing to indict dozens of Turkish academics who are temporarily living and working in Germany, the persecuted professors and intellectuals are seeking asylum or more permanent teaching positions in the country, Deutsche Welle reports. The “crime” committed by academics, in Turkey and Germany alike, is that they signed a petition calling for a peaceful resolution to the Turkish-Kurdish conflict, which Ankara has deemed “propagandizing for a terrorist organization.”
