Commercial interest in Baltic Pipe to Poland affirmed

Gas shippers have confirmed interested in a planned pipeline from Noway to Poland, called Baltic Pipe, which would help Poland reduce or eliminate its dependence on imports from Russia, bne IntelliNews reports. The final investment decision on building the pipeline is preliminarily scheduled for 2018, and Baltic Pipe is expected to go operational in 2022, the year Poland’s long-term contract for gas supplies from Russia ends. Warsaw plans not to renew the contract and has already begun cutting its dependence on Russian gas by launching an LNG terminal.
