Kosovo’s bridge to Russia

An RFE/RL report from the ethnically divided city of Mitrovica finds that people in Kosovo’s Serb-dominated North are growing disillusioned with Belgrade as it engages in EU-sponsored dialogue with Pristina, and they are instead putting their faith in Putin as their protector. Meanwhile, Moscow is seizing the opportunity to fuel ethnic tensions in Kosovo and the Balkans in order to halt reconciliation and western integration. Also, there is growing concern that the EU proposal of creating an association of Serb municipalities in Kosovo will lead to the creation of a new Russian government proxy, similar to Republika Srpska in Bosnia.
