Bosnia Serbs vow to block NATO accession plan

Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik said Republika Srpska will not get involved in efforts to implement Bosnia’s pending NATO Membership Action Plan (MAP), effectively blocking Bosnia from joining the military alliance, Balkan Insight reports. Dodik claimed NATO only supports Bosniaks in Bosnia, and he vowed to keep Republika Srpska aligned with Serbia’s military neutrality policy. Republika Srpska has already adopted a resolution on neutrality, but Bosnian state-level officials believe Dodik does not have the authority to block Bosnia’s attempt to implement a MAP. Sarajevo requested a MAP in 2009, but the plan has yet to be activated, due largely to disputes over the transfer of military assets from Republika Srpska to the Bosnian state.
