A tough year ahead for Turkey

In a Hurriyet Daily News column, Turkish journalist Murat Yetkin notes Erdogan’s 2017-ending remark that, in 2018, Turkey would “continue to take risks” in its foreign policy, especially in regional issues. Yetkin forecasts 2018 may be be difficult year for Turkey as Ankara’s troubled relations with the U.S. and weak democratic atmosphere will hamper Turkey’s economic progress, likely resulting in more debt and inflation. Ankara has opportunity, though, to improve its relations with Europe, which could bolster Turkish exports and tourism.
