Businessman close to Bulgaria’s ruling party shot dead

One week after Bulgaria took over the rotating EU presidency, a businessman believed to be close to the ruling GERB party was shot and killed in Sofia. Petar Hristov owned dairy producer Lakrima but was also involved in businesses across several sectors, including construction, tourism, finance and consulting. The motive for the murder remains unclear, but Bulgarian police are probing whether it was connected to Hristov’s business interests, bne IntelliNews reports.
