Juncker: Slovenia-Croatia dispute jeopardizes Balkan enlargement

With Slovenia and Croatia continuing to quarrel over the demarcation of their border — even after the deadline to implement an arbitration court ruling — European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said he would never again put off resolving EU candidate countries’ border problems until after their accession into the bloc. Juncker added that the future enlargement of the EU is “in the hands of Slovenia and Croatia” and that other Western Balkan states must “agree between themselves before they become member states,” EU observer reports. The next two states in line for EU membership — Montenegro and Serbia — both have unresolved border disputes with Kosovo.
