Defying court ban, Republika Srpska goes ahead with ‘statehood day’

Republika Srpska again defied Bosnia’s Constitutional Court and held a celebration — the biggest ever — marking the Bosnian Serb entity’s statehood day, RFE/RL reports. The event included Republika Srpska’s police forces marching in a parade with automatic weapons. Former Serbian president Tomislav Nikolic attended the Republika Srpska Day celebration, as did current Serbian ministers and Anatoly Bibilov, the de facto leader of breakaway Georgian region South Ossetia. During the event, Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik said, “The Serb people have two states — Serbia and Republika Srpska — and we want to be one.”
