Turkey launches major land operation into YPG militants in Syria’s Afrin

Turkey has launched the “Olive Branch Operation” in Northern Syria, with Turkish troops entering Afrin to target the Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG). Hurriyet Daily News provides extensive coverage of the operation, which involves Turkish ground troops, jets and collaboration with the Free Syrian Army. Ankara’s move has forced Russia to pull some its ground forces out of Afrin and relocate them to elsewhere in Syria. Meanwhile Ankara is threatening to target any force logistical support provided to the YPG in the region, even if it comes from the U.S.
