Putin signs new decree for military rearmament, Kremlin confirms

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Putin signed a secret decree updating Russia’s military armament strategy for 2018-2027, The Moscow Times reports. Moscow’s previous armament program sought to overhaul 70 percent of the Russian military’s Soviet-era hardware by 2020. Last year,  the Kommersant business daily reported Russia’s new 10-year rearmament program would cost about 19 trillion rubles ($340 billion) and give priority to developing nuclear deterrence, precision-guided munitions and a vertical take-off and landing jet.
