Bribe taking in Russia triples in 2017, new figures show

The total monetary value of bribes reported in Russia tripled from approximately $41 million in 2016 to approximately $119 million in 2017, according to figures from Russia’s National Anti-Corruption Committee, The Moscow times reports. Additionally, Transparency International, which recently ranked Russia 135th out of 180 countries in its annual global corruption index, said 1 in every 3 Russians paid a bribe for public services in 2017.
