Turkish PM says he’s willing to discuss diplomatic ties with Armenia

After new Armenian PM Nikol Pashinian said Yerevan is ready to establish relations with Ankara, Turkish PM Binali Yildirim responded, saying Turkey is willing to consider an offer from Armenia to ease tensions and establish diplomatic relations, RFE/RL reports. The major issue dividing Ankara and Yerevan is Armenia’s insistence that Turkey recognize the Ottoman-era killings of up to 1.5 million Armenians as genocide. Likewise, Ankara and Yerevan remain divided over Nagorno Karabakh, with Turkey backing its regional ally Azerbaijan in the territorial conflict between Yerevan and Baku.
