Ukraine charges Moscow has brought up to 1 million Russians into Crimea

Mustafa Dzhemilev, the long-time leader of the Crimean Tatars and Ukraine’s envoy for Crimean Tatar affairs, said Moscow has relocated an estimated 850,000 to 1 million Russians to Crimea since annexing the peninsula, RFE/RL reports. Dzhemilev said Russia is repeating a strategy used during the first occupation of Crimea under Catherine the Great in order to shift the peninsula’s demographics and force out Crimean Tatars. Moscow is guarding its current operation as a military secret, Dzhemilev said.
