Bulgaria’s parliament votes to revive Belene project

Despite warnings from economists that the nuclear plant is expensive and unnecessary, Bulgaria’s parliament voted to restart the Belene power plant project, bne IntelliNews reports. 172 of Bulgaria’s 240 MPs voted in favor of restarting the previously scrapped Belene project, with only 14 voting against it and two abstentions. A new opposition coalition, Democratic Bulgaria, says construction of the Belene plant will cost at least 10.7 billion euros. Sofia has already spent more than 3 billion euros on the project.
