Bulgaria to replace Soviet MiG jets with NATO allies’ planes

After years of debate, Bulgaria’s parliament approved a plan to spend about $2 billion to purchase 150 combat vehicles and 16 new or used fighter jets to replace Sofia’s aging Soviet-designed MiG-29s, RFE/RL reports. Sofia has said it will call for bids for fighter jets from the U.S., Portugal, Italy, France, Sweden, and Israel.
