Macedonian President refuses to sign off on ‘damaging’ name change deal

Following the announcement of the Macedonia name deal, Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov is vowing to veto the agreement and Greek PM Alexis Tsipras is facing a possible no-confidence vote. Additionally, there have been street protests in Skopje, and a rally against the deal is scheduled to take place in Athens on Friday. While Ivanov can veto the agreement, which will rename Macedonia “North Macedonia,” the Macedonian parliament could then vote to override his veto, forcing him to sign the deal.
