Serbian police close paramilitary youth camp run by ultranationalists, Russian group

Serbian authorities shut down a summer camp on Mount Zlatibor with participants ranging in age from 12 to 23, who were being trained by Russian and Serbian instructors on how to use guns and knives, RFE/RL reports. The Youth Patriotic Camp Zlatibor 2018 was co-organized by Serbian and Russian ultranationalist groups. The camp appears to have been modeled after similar camps that have proliferated in Russia since 2015, when the Kremlin called for an increase in “patriotic youth” — basically children who grow up to be soldiers.
