Bosnian elections shadowed by protests over alleged murder cover-ups

In a strange twist that is bridging Bosnia’s ethnic divisions ahead of Sunday’s election, tens of thousands of people joined protests on Friday — rather than attending final campaign rallies — in Sarajevo and Banja Luka in support of a pair of fathers who are demanding the truth about the alleged murders of their sons, RFE/RL reports. The two fathers, Davor Dragicevic, a Serb from Banja Luka, and Muriz Memic, a Muslim Bosniak from Sarajevo, accuse Bosnian police and prosecutors of covering up the murders of their sons for political reasons. The ongoing protests in Banja Luka are posing a challenge to Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik, who is currently seeking the Serb seat in Bosnia’s tripartite presidency.
