European commission urges Bulgaria to find journalist’s killers

Bulgarian TV journalist Viktoria Marinova, who had just days ago interviewed reporters on alleged fraud involving EU funds, was found dead in Ruse, Bulgaria on Saturday. Bulgarian investigators said Marinova had been raped and died of of blows to the head and suffocation. Following Marinova’s murder, which was the third killing of a journalist in the EU in less than a year, the European Commission urged Sofia to bring to justice those responsible for the brutal crime, The Guardian reports. Commission VP Frans Timmermans stated he was shocked that “again a courageous journalist falls in the fight for truth and against corruption.”
