Meet Moscow’s man in Macedonia, one of Putin’s many pals disrupting Europe

The Daily Beast profiles Janko Bachev, the leader of Macedonia’s new pro-Russian United Macedonia party that is modeled after Putin’s United Russia and is pushing for Skopje to halt its western integration and instead join the Kremlin’s Eurasian Union. Bachev, like Putin, is a former secret service agent. The Daily Beast piece lists Bachev as one of Putin’s allies in the region — others being Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Hungarian PM Viktor Orban — who are disrupting EU and NATO efforts at a time in which the Kremlin is paying increasing attention to the Western Balkans.
