NATO approves membership action plan for Bosnia

NATO ministers agreed to start implementing Bosnia’s long-stalled Membership Action Plan that had been held up for several years over Republika Srpksa’s refusal to give up control of its military property to the Bosnian state, Balkan Insight reports. Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik insists he will block any moves by Bosnia to join NATO and keep the country militarily neutral, in line with Serbia. Nonetheless, NATO is moving ahead with preparing Bosnia to join the alliance and is now calling for the Balkan state to submit its first annual program of reforms needed to bring the country in line with NATO standards.
