Russian diplomats caught spying in Hungary get expelled quietly as usual

An investigation reveals there have been about 10 quiet — meaning intentionally not publicized — expulsions of Russian spies from Hungary since 2010. In a 2016 case, Hungarian military counter-intelligence exposed a Russian man working as a diplomat in Budapest, who in reality was involved in the arming of the neo-Nazi paramilitary group called the Hungarian National Front (MNA) and was allegedly involved in GRU operations in the Balkans, where he was also in contact with criminal organizations. The case, which the Orban government did not disclose so as not to harms its relations with Moscow, appears to demonstrate what some analysts allege: that the Kremlin uses Hungary as an operational and logistics base, where they organize clandestine secret service operations for the Balkans.
