Regnum.ru: MP from the Servant of the People Party: The story with Trump did not impair Ukraine’s image

‘The telephone conversation between President Vladimir Zelensky and US leader Donald Trump, which was announced publicly, did not create any problems for the Ukrainian state and its image did not suffer’, said the representative of the party “Servant of the People”, the head of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs Bogdan Yaremenko in an interview with RBC-Ukraine, published today, October 7.

Zelensky’s associate said that Ukraine has essentially found itself hostage to a situation in another country, “which is very important to us.”

“In this situation, we have little choice – we can wish the United States to overcome this crisis as soon as possible and resolve it in a way they consider legal and appropriate. And to continue their cooperation with Ukraine. We still hear many rumors that this crisis will not affect US-Ukraine relations. In this context, I see no reason to speak of any ‘toxicity’, Yaremenko stressed.

He also said that after the story became so public, it deprived Kiev of the chance to “even think” about trying to play alongside one of the parties in American politics.

“It would be so counter-productive that I don’t even want to talk about it,” summarized the head of the Rada’s foreign policy committee.

BA Comment

The comment by the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Foreign Committee Bogdan Yaremenko  is typical of a ruling party representative, but the view that the transcript of the Zelensky-Trump conversation has not revealed unpleasant sides of the character of the Ukrainian president is a propaganda cliché.

There are at least a few aspects in criticism of Zelensky that followed – such as his assurances that the new Attorney General is his appointment and can influence him. This contradicts the Constitution which proclaims the separation of powers.

Second, his subservient tone in the conversation.

Third, the ensuing speeches and assurances from Zelensky himself, who is indeed talking about investigations into Joe Biden’s son, which cannot be construed as not taking a side. Something that Bogdan Yaremenko calls “counterproductive”.
