Crude oil production by using hydraulic fracturing method, a first for Turkey, takes place in southeastern Diyarbakir
Turkey has started producing crude oil by using hydraulic fracturing method, also known as fracking, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday.
The commercial crude oil production by using the method is a first for Turkey, and it takes place in the southeastern province of Diyarbakir, Erdogan told during his speech at the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party’s 29th Consultation and Assessment meeting in Kizilcahamam.
“Turkish Petroleum has surpassed 50,000 barrels (per day) of domestic oil production, breaking the record for the last 20 years,” the president said.
“We want to extend this [fracking] method even more, and we will continue to open new wells,” he added.
