Facebook has blamed Russian military intelligence for spreading fake news


 

Moscow has always dismissed the charges by the West that it is using a network of accounts to spread false information and manipulative suggestion for political interference. And the Kremlin has consistently claimed that it never, under any circumstances, uses social networks for political propaganda.

Just days ago, the Facebook company announced that it had blocked a network of accounts used by Russian military intelligence to spread fake news related to Ukraine and other Eastern European countries, Reuters reported.

According to the head of cybersecurity policy, Nathaniel Glaiker, dozens of fake profiles have been created for people, often posing as journalists, who have communicated with local media and politicians to spread fake news on controversial political issues, such as allegations in corruption and ethnic tensions in Russia-annexed Crimea.
